FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team mit vier Athleten beim Weltcup in Champéry

Nach Dalby Forest (GB), Houffalize (BEL) und Offenburg (GER) findet im Schweizer Alpenort Champéry der vierte Weltcup der Saison statt. Bereits 2007 und 2009 war Champéry Schauplatz eines Cross Country Weltcups, im kommenden Jahr beherbergt das im Kanton Wallis gelegene Skimekka erstmals auch eine Mountainbike Weltmeisterschaft. Mit den Österreichern Karl Markt und Simon Scheiber sowie Sabrina Enaux (FRA) und Adelheid Morath (GER) sind vier Athleten des FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Teams am Start. Die slowenische Meisterin Blaza Klemencic fühlt sich nach ihrer langen Krankheit noch nicht fit genug für Champéry und möchte sich auf die Marathon Weltmeisterschaften in St. Wendel konzentrieren.

Markt und Scheiber im Konzert der Großen
Seit dem Weltcup in Offenburg ist der frisch gebackene Vater Julien Absalon (FRA) wieder die Nummer eins der Weltrangliste. Er ist auch in Champéry der Topfavorit auf den Sieg, wobei mit dem amtierenden Weltmeister Nino Schurter (SUI), dem tschechischen Europameister Jaroslav Kulhavy und José Antonio Hermida (ESP) sowie Vorjahressieger Burry Stander (RSA) die Konkurrenz enorm stark ist. Karl Markt reist als Bronzemedaillengewinner der österreichischen Staatsmeisterschaft nach Champéry. Er möchte sein Ergebnis vom Vorjahr, als der Haiminger auf Platz 43 landete, unbedingt verbessern. Gleiches hat sich auch Simon Scheiber vorgenommen. „Von meinem Abschneiden bei der Staatsmeisterschaft war ich schon enttäuscht. Aber jetzt muss ich nach vorne schauen, die Saison ist noch lang“, so der 21-Jährige, der bei der nationalen U23-Meisterschaft dritter wurde.

Hoffnungen ruhen auf Enaux
Nach der krankheitsbedingten Absage von Blaza Klemencic ruhen die Hoffnungen des FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Teams bei den Damen auf Drittplatzierten der französischen Meisterschaft Sabrina Enaux und der Fünftplatzierten der deutschen Meisterschaft Adelheid Morath. Vor allem die Französin, die derzeit in der Weltrangliste auf Position 25 geführt wird und im Vorjahr in Champéry auf einem hervorragenden 15. Platz landete, gehört zu den Fahrerinnen, die um eine Top 15 Platzierung mitfahren können. Für Adelheid Morath lief es bei den bisherigen Weltcuprennen der Saison noch nicht so richtig rund, gibt sich aber kämpferisch: „Ich bin körperlich topfit, konnte die Form aber in dieser Saison im Wettkampf kaum zeigen. Ich brauche einfach ein Erfolgserlebnis und hoffe, dass der Knoten in Champéry platzt.“ Auch bei den Damen hat die komplette Weltelite gemeldet. Catharine Pendrel (CAN), Willow Koerber (USA), Eva Lechner (ITA) und Irina Kalentieva (RUS) sowie Europameisterin Katrin Leumann (SUI) und Vorjahressiegerin Lisi Osl (AUT) sind nur einige der prominentesten Teilnehmerinnen.

FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team with four athletes at Champéry

After Dalby Forest (GB), Houffalize (BEL) and Offenburg (GER) the fourth World Cup of the season takes place in the Swiss alpine village of Champéry. In 2007 and 2009 Champéry has already hosted a Cross Country World Cup. In 2011 the sking mecca situated in the canton of Valais is the venue of mountain bike world championships for the first time. With the Austrians Karl Markt and Simon Scheiber, Sabrina Enaux (FRA) and Adelheid Morath (GER) four athletes of the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team start at Champéry. The Slovenian champion Blaza Klemencic doesn`t feel fit enough yet after her long illness and wants to concentrate on the marathon world championships in St. Wendel.

Scheiber and Markt in strong competition
Since the world cup in Offenburg the brand new father Julien Absalon (FRA) is again the number one in the UCI world ranking. He is also the top favorite in Champéry, although the competition with the reigning World Champion Nino Schurter (SUI), the European champion Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE), José Antonio Hermida (ESP) and last year's champion Burry Stander (RSA) is very strong. Karl Markt comes to Switzerland as bronze medalist in the Austrian state championships. He wants to improve his result of last year, when he finished as 43rd. That`s also the intention of Simon Scheiber. "I was disappointed with my result at the Austrian championships. But now I have to look forward, the season is still long", said the 21-year-old, who was 3rd in the U23 national championships last week.

Hopes rest on Enaux
With the abstinence of Blaza Klemencic the hopes of the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team in the women`s race rest on Sabrina Enaux, third-placed at the French championships and Adelheid Morath, fifth-placed at the German championships. Especially the Frenchwoman, who is currently on position 25 in the world rankings and who finished on rank 15 in Champéry last year, might be able to ride for a top 15 placing. Adelheid Morath was not happy with her results in the past three world cup races, but presents herself optimistically: "I am in a good physical shape but I havn`t been able to show this in the races. I just need a feeling of success and hope that the penny drops in Champéry." Also in the women`s competition world elite will start. Catharine Pendrel (CAN), Willow Koerber (USA), Eva Lechner (ITA) and Irina Kalentieva (RUS) as well as the European champion Katrin Leumann (SUI) and the last year`s winner Lisi Osl (AUT) are only some of the most prominent riders.
