XCO Europameisterschaften in Haifa (ISR) – FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team hat drei Eisen im Feuer

Die frisch gebackene slowenische Meisterin Blaza Klemencic, der amtierende österreichische U23 Meister Simon Scheiber und der österreichische Vizemeister Karl Markt vertreten das FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team bei den Europameisterschaften im olympischen Cross Country in Haifa (ISR).

Klemencic auf Medaillenjagd
Der Weg zu einer EM-Medaille wird für die alte und neue slowenische Meisterin Blaza Klemencic nicht leicht. Schließlich sind neben der wieder erstarkten Olympiasiegerin Sabine Spitz (GER) und Gesamtweltcupsiegerin Lisi Osl (AUT) auch Houffalize-Siegerin Eva Lechner (ITA) sowie die starke Spanierin Marga Fullana, Esther Süss (SUI) und Lene Byberg (NOR). Lediglich die russische Weltmeisterin Irina Kalentieva musste ihren Start in Haifa aufgrund gesundheitlicher Probleme absagen. Ein starkes Feld, indem sich Blaza Klemencic behaupten will. „Natürlich hoffe ich um eine Medaille mitfahren zu können, auch wenn es in diesem Jahr ziemlich schwer wird“, schätzt Klemencic ihre Chancen bei der anstehenden Europameisterschaft ein.

Viele Absagen bei den Herren     
Die Liste der hochkarätigen Absagen bei den Herren ist lang. Mit Julien Absalon (FRA) und Nino Schurter (SUI) fehlen der Olympiasieger und der Weltmeister in Haifa. Auch Florian Vogel (SUI) sowie die deutschen Fahrer Wolfram Kurschat und Manuel Fumic haben nicht gemeldet. Umso größer die Chance für die Favoriten José Antonio Hermida (ESP), Ralph Näf (SUI), Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) und Lukas Flückiger (SUI). Und auch Karl Markt kann sich berechtigte Hoffnungen auf eine Top 10 Platzierung machen. Mit seinem 13. Platz in Albstadt hat der Österreicher zuletzt erneut seine Klasse bewiesen. „Ich fühle mich gut und werde in Haifa voll angreifen. Was dann am Ende dabei rauskommt wird man sehen“, gibt sich Markt optimistisch.

Scheiber im Favoritenkreis
Die Chancen auf eine Platzierung in der Spitzengruppe stehen für den österreichischen U23-Meister Simon Scheiber nicht schlecht. In der U23-Konkurrenz will er sich mit den Schweizer Favoriten Matthias Flückiger, Thomas Litscher und Martin Fanger sowie dem starken Polen Marek Konwa um die Medaillen streiten. „Meine Form stimmt schon seit Wochen. Wenn ich endlich mal ohne Sturz oder technischen Defekt durchkomme ist in Haifa einiges möglich“, so Scheiber, der zuletzt vom Pech verfolgt zu sein schien.

European XCO Championships – Three athletes of FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team take part in Haifa (ISR)

The old and new Slovenian champion Blaza Klemencic, the reigning Austrian under 23 champion Simon Scheiber and the Austrian vice champion Karl Markt represent the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team at the European Championships in the Olympic Cross Country at Haifa (ISR).

Klemencic aims for a medal
To win a medal at the European Championships is a tough mission for the reigning Slovenian champion Blaza Klemencic. In addition to the recovered Olympic champion Sabine Spitz (GER) and overall World Cup champion Lisi Osl (AUT) also Houffalize winner Eva Lechner (ITA) and the strong Spaniard Marga Fullana, Esther Süss (SUI) and Lene Byberg (NOR) will participate in Haifa. Only the Russian world champion Irina Kalentieva had to cancel her start due to health problems. A strong field Blaza Klemencic wants to compete with. "Of course I hope to be able to fight for a medal, even if it will be very difficult this year", Klemencic said about her chances in the forthcoming European Championship.

Many cancellations in the men
The list of top-class cancellation in the men`s competition is long. By Julien Absalon (FRA) and Nino Schurter (SUI) both the Olympic and the world champion is missing in Haifa. With his 13th place in Albstadt, the Austrians again proved his class. "I feel good and want to attack in Haifa”, Markt said optimistically.

Scheiber in the circle of favorites
The chances of a placing in the top group are not bad for the Austrian under 23 champion Simon Scheiber. In the  under 23 competition he wants to compete with the Swiss favorites Matthias Flückiger, Thomas Litscher and Martin Fanger and the strong Poland Marek Konwa. "My shape is good since weeks. If I finally can finish a race without a crash or some technical defect, a lot is possible in Haifa", said Scheiber.
