Beginning of the World Cup weekend 2010 in Offenburg - Ferrand Prevont and van der Heijden win the Junior Race
3,2,1….Go!!!
Exactly at 2.30 pm the best junior mountain bike riders of the world started the World Cup with a 5,1 kilometre distance in Offenburg Rammersweier.
Less than 1 minute later the female junior riders started the race. 32 female juniors and 106 male juniors competed for the first place of the World Cup in Offenburg. The female juniors had to do three laps of the World Cup course. The male juniors had two more laps to do. After the heavy rainfalls of the last days the very difficult course was really a challenge for the riders. In spite of the sunny weather, the ground had no time to dry completely.
Among the female juniors Pauline Ferrand Prevot, the current Junior World Champion (1:07:12) won the race. Two German female bikers succeeded on the second and third place. Second place Johanna Techt (1:08:04) before Helen Grobert (1:08:22).
Among the male Juniors Roger Walder from Switzerland and Michiel van der Heijden from the Netherlands had a hard competition just one lap before the arrival. Finally the dutch rider was the winner. Heijden (1:34:26) already won the two first World Cups in Dalby Forest (GB) and Houffalize (BEL). Roger Walder (1:35:18) could held the second place up to the end of the race. Julien Trarieux (1:36:31) from France won the third place.
