Fourth victory of Julien Absalon at UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Offenburg

Offenburg, that`s his course. For the fourth time in a row French rider Julien Absalon won the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Offenburg/Rammersweier. The double Olympic Champion of 2004 and 2008 crossed the finish line as first after 1:53:26 hours. At the beginning of the race the current World Champion Nino Schurter (SUI) was the only one to follow Absalon. In the third lap Schurter slipped at the entrance of „Wolfsdrop“ and Absalon took his chance to break away. In the end Absalon was 49 seconds before Nino Schurter and celebrated his victory with thousands of fans in the world cup stadium.

Three riders battled fort he third place on the podium. Christoph Sauser (SUI), Florian Vogel (SUI) and Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) were close together till lap six. Then Kulhavy managed to break of and to finish on third position only 19 seconds after Schurter.

The German aspirations were destroyed early today. Manuel Fumic, who started from position two, came in only as 28th. Wolfram Kurschat, who was ranked second in Offenburg the year before, finished on an acceptable nineth place.

Altogether a fantastic World Cup weekend with a new spectator record comes to its end.  For the first time more than 20.000 supporters visited the World Cup in Offenburg. Jörg Scheiderbauer was completely satisfied: „It was a fantastic event. That`s how mountain biking should be”, said the chief organiser of the worlds best mountain bike event in 2008 and 2009.
