Adelheid Morath: “I have the large dream London 2012 before my eyes.”

Adelheid Morath is the second spectacular rider to join the newly established FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC World Cup Team. At the Scheiderbauer Sports headquarters she exclusively expressed her decision.

1.

After many years riding for the Rothaus-Cube Team you will make the transfer to the new pro team FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC World Cup Team. Tell us a bit more about your decision.

I see the change as a great opportunity to develop as an athlete. The Team Philosophy with the 2012 Olympics as the main focus matches my personal goal.

2.

Your new Team has great plans. What are your personal expectations and goals?

London is of course my main focus. Next season my goal is to finish in the Top 10 at the world cups.

3.

Last year at the Olympic Games you finished 18th with a mechanical default To what extent can you positively use this experience for your major goal London 2012?

Actually it became directly clear to me after the race that I will do everything to make it to London. The fascination Olympia inspired me in such a way in Peking that I have the large dream London before my eyes. Naturally I hope then that I can achieve a good place there without defect.

4.

You belong with your 25 years to the talented young German woman riders, finishing this year second behind Olympic Champion Sabine Spitz. When can the mountain bike world count on a changing of the guard?

That is difficult to say. As long as Sabine is still racing, it will be a hard fight, which motivates me at the same time. In addition, one must not forget the other women. Three years are a long time, in which a lot can happen.

5.

Three years ago you had an accident breaking your kneecap. Was this the most difficult phase of your young career?

Yes, you could say so. I was not allowed to exert any pressure or load on my knee, so I swam a lot. I was not able to sit on the bike for two months. After my win at the 2007 Trans Black Forest and my 18th place at the World Championships I set my sights on Peking.

6.

The Newspaper called you stubborn. What is your response to this statement?

This is okay for me. I do not see this as an offense. When I set my goals I want to achieve them.

7.

Your first new team colleague is the French woman Sabrina Enaux. Are you looking forward to the common World Cup season?

So far I have hardly had contact with Sabrina. I look forward however to the next season and am curious who is still to join the team.

8.

You grew up in the high Black Forest and did a lot of skiing. Is this something you use now as cross training?

As cross training I do a lot of cross country skiing, it is a part of my trainings plan. I have here optimal training conditions, however look forward to the new trainings area in Ötztal. Cross country skiing with its complete body movement is an ideal exercise for mountain biking.
