It was my day
I really nailed this event, the International Breisgau Middle Distance Triathlon and state championships for Baden Württemberg. After a very busy week in the office I managed to show some good form winning the state championships. I know it sounds a bit funny that an Australian wins a state championships in Germany however I have a german racing licence issued from a german club and am registered in this state.
It has now been 7 weeks since Ironman Frankfurt and just 3 weeks since running our triathlon event here in Germany. I have been back in training 2,5 weeks after my post-Ironman break and the form seems to be on track. I was pretty pleased with my swim, considering the limited training coming out of the water as 8th female. I quickly settled into my rhythm on the bike feeling great. The 900 climbing meters suited my riding style. I made up 6 places on the bike going into the run in 2nd place. You never know how the legs are going to feel starting the run, my legs were awesome! Over the annoucement I heard that I was only 1,5 mins down on the 1st place female. After 2 km I had the leading female in sight and could see that she was faiding. I continued to run my tempo, taking the lead. It was a nice feeling having a lead mountain biker riding in front of me with the sign "Leading Female". The crowd was very helpful cheering me on, especially up the big climb that we had to run up twice! The other competitors were also very motivating, those that I overtook and the few (to my surprise) that ran passed me. It was an awesome feeling crossing the line after 4hrs 39mins and as state champion!
