Events
After the event is before the event. That´s what we say here in Germany. When one event is over you start preparing for the next. That sounds logical, for us it is pretty complex. The first events of the year the we organise begin in May, the Worldclass Marathon Challenge with over 2000 competitors, then the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup with 500 elite athletes from over 40 different countries along with 20.000 spectators. In July time to switch sports to triathlon for the Hansgrohe Triathlon with 800 triathletes. September begins with a Mountain Bike/Wine Tour in the neighbouring village of Durbach. A great combination! Followed by the premiere of our Team Festival in Ötztal, exclusive for the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Team members, including both Mountain Bike and Triathlon with technique training, training and nutrition tips, tours, bike set-up and performance tests. And don´t forget about our future stars, in November rounds up our eventful year with mountain bike training for the kids. Year in year out, one event after the other.
Then there are the events where Jörg and I compete in, starting out this year in China for the Ironman, onto Germany then Riva in Italy for a mountain bike marathon event, a quick 1/2 marathon in Offenburg city centre, followed by a triathlon event in Worms Germany, mountain bike marathon in Willingen (Germany) before the 2nd highligh of the year Ironman Frankfurt. Next stop 1/2 Ironman in Breisgau Germany (this sunday), followed by the Ötztaler Rad Marathon in Austria (238 km and 5500 climbing meters), Xterra Switzerland (cross triathlon).......with the last stop for the year HAWAII Ironman.
Now that I have put all this on paper, or on my screen it is a crazy journey we are riding on. These are our major events which direct our goals and daily activities. Of course you need to select the major goals or races and use the smaller events as preparation. For us now with the major goal being Hawaii Ironman we are working on trying to be as fit physically and mentally as possible. Running a business which includes organising the events mentioned above, managing a professional and Leisure Mountain Bike/Triathlon Team and owning a bike shop makes life very interesting. There are also the everyday events like selling a bike or offering nutrition advice.
Training is also a daily event. For us it is normal the routine training, office and training followed by more office. We may not train as much as other Ironman athletes, however we train smart and listen to our body. This is the key to our success.
So now I need to get back to work before heading out for an open water swim....
